The hen got injured 12 days ago from a raccoon strike. Until the healing process happened, I couldn't see how well it was going, but well, she kept her eye and at least two thirds of her upper beak.

For almost a week, the hen would only drink rarely and not eat. After that she started accepting cottage cheese. Then cottage cheese with birdseed. The mealworms were her first step today in eating anything more solid.

She's eating and drinking, and eliminating, more or less normally now. But she lays down while eating. She is interested, but when she gets close to the food, she will just lay down and pick at it. I've checked her gait. She is not lame. She just lays down a lot.

So, she can't go back to the flock while doing that. If I put her in with them she won't get anything to eat. I don't see them pecking her, but clearly she is not well.

Suggestions?

Videos posted to YouTube or Vimeo with a link posted here or pictures can help. She may just be injured and need some time to heal.

I have pix from iphone and have tried to transfer them to the PC, but both the phone (2015) and PC (2010!) are old at this point. It's not working.

If anyone can post a step by step instruction on how to do this strictly mobile?

A crate or pen with her own food and water would be ideal, where she can still be around the other chickens but they can't get to her or her food. I kept a duck with a broken leg (naughty puppy!) in our in-coop wire brooder until he could get around again- he healed well and we still have him 3 years later!
