I have a hen that was nearly fully recovered from heat stroke last week who is now limping on her right foot. She’s staying in her coop and refuses to come out. It’s 99 fahrenheit today and I really don’t want her in there today…
I’ll get pictures of her foot.

Have you checked her for bumblefoot, leg mites, or any swelling? It is also possible she sprained her leg.

Was she roosting even after having the heat stroke?

I have had a rooster suddenly get a limp and after havung it for a bit, he got used to walking around and he walked it off and he is now back to normal.

I didn’t see bumblefoot, though I’m not positive I didn’t miss it either. What would leg mites or a sprained ankle look like?

Yeah she was roosting and nearly fully recovered— this morning, she just came out of her coop croaking and limping. Her flock won’t leave her side and she’s back in the run.

That’s good to hear! I’ll be sure to keep an eye on it through the day to see if it gets better.

I would separate the hen, and put her in a small, confined cage (with food and water) away from the other chickens until she stops limping.

Do you have plenty of ventilation inside your coop? Are their windows? If not I would make more ventilation. Is your coop and run shaded? There should be shaded water available, and I put out a flat pan of water for them to soak their feet and legs in hot weather.

Thank you! I will do that. Hopefully she likes Lord of the Rings.
Mine just like the cool air when they are sick and then I put them in my spare room in a home depot goat with chicken wire with some paper towels on the bottom once I figure out the problem and keep them in there until they’re healthy.
