I found one of our hens this morning underneath their perch. She appeared pooped on and somewhat buried in the shavings. Our girls (and boy) are locked into a secure coop at night, and last night was no different. I am not sure what happened.
I have isolated her, cleaned her off, and she is eating (a little) and drinking water. She seems to be favoring her left leg (not completely, just a limp) and her left wing seems "sore"
My worry is several-fold: Her becoming egg bound from not being in her normal environment, how long should I isolate her and (I know this is odd) Should I bathe her (not now, but in a day)? She tries to groom but she is pretty gross.

Welcome to BYC. How old is your sick hen? Was she vaccinated for Mareks disease? She could have suffered an injury that has affected her leg and wing, but Mareks disease can affect the nerves and cause paralysis in one or both legs or wings. I would separate her into a dog crate with food and water. Offer her some chopped egg, and mix a little wet chicken feed, and try to get her eating and drinking. Try to determine if she is paralyzed, and look for any swelling, scabs, or bruising of her leg or foot.

Sorry to add my problem here but can’t figure out how to start a new thread. I am new at this.

Yesterday morning I found my beautiful Sisilian buttercup hen hurting, in shock, eyes shut, blood all over her head. I removed her, tried to clean her a bit, and placed her in a box, in a dog kennel with a heat lamp. Today she is moving slightly, one eye open, but you can see that her head is swollen from the pecking and possibly bleeding. The whole flock was raised from chicks together. They are 5 months old now and already layers. The buttercup is the smallest in size in comparison to the other ones, but until yesterday they all seemed to get along well. Any ideas why attack her?

I would spend some time watching your flock interact, and try to find out why they attacked her. She may be showing signs of sickness. The others can spot that like a sixth sense, and even the smallest birds will attack. So take her and clean her wounds and the dried blood with antiseptic or soap and water. Betadine is good to use and sold everywhere as povidone iodine.

Check her to see if she is walking okay, check her crop function, for mites and lice, and get her taking some watery feed and cooked egg. She may need to be separated for a day or two until she heals. Look for a bully in your flock and separate them.
