Hello all!

Finally logging in a looking for advice to help heal my favorite Rooster P.J..

He’s just turned 4 (his dad is alive and about to turn 8!). Recently he’s been through a lot…he was attacked be a fox about a month ago, and received a neck injury. He seems to be back to normal except I noticed him standing on one leg occasionally. I just held him for the first time in a week or so and noticed he’s got an open wound on the front portion of his hock, almost like it split open.

I’ve noticed before that he has a scab there over the years but didn’t think much of it. I don’t know if he cut himself and it just never healed, or that same wound just got infected.

I couldn’t get the best pick of it since it was just me, but it looks scabby inside the wound and definitely smells of infection. It’s also very swollen above it…maybe the size of a large grape.

Please help, I really don’t want this to get out of hand and kill my favorite little roo. He’s basically like my dog.

Thanks in advance!

Difficult to make out what is going on there. I would apply an antibiotic ointment daily and see if that helps.

I’ll try to get a better pic later. Do you recommend a specific antibiotic that’s safe for chickens?

Here is a better photo of his hock. Should I just use neosporin? Should I cover it with anything? I’ve been putting blue kote cream on it but it doesn’t seem to do much

Neosporin triple antibiotic without pain relief (very important that it's the one without pain relief) or equivalent generic brand version
