Our cat got injured by another animal a few days ago. We are guessing a bunny. The wound is infected and we have been draining it and cleaning it w/Peroxide and anti-bacterial cream.

I was wondering if it would help to use the tylan 50 I have to clean the wound. Or possibly to inject it into the cat? I know that you have to be very careful w/the Tylan but I also know that we've had good luck w/it and our chickens.

Any thoughts? We are trying to avoid the vet becuase it's always $100 and money is tight w/the DH still out of work.

I'm not sure about the Tylan 50 if that is tylonol I would not use it because it could kill your cat don't use asprin either it also could kill kitty.
Maybe someone else will see this and be able to guide you as to what to do or use.
I hope your kitty pulls thru

No. Don't use Tylan (which is an Antibiotic, not Tylenol, which is Acetaminophen also toxic to cats).

If you absolutely cannot take him to the vet then your best bet is Penacillin Injections. You will go to your local TSC or feed store and buy PenG injection and syringes.
The dose is 1CC per 10 pounds of cat once a day Subq (in the skin, not the muscle), for 10 days.

Be careful cleaning puncture wounds as it can drive the infection deeper.
Apply a topical Neosporin to the wound.
Keep the cat inside until the wound is healed, you do not want flies laying eggs in it.

Are you sure it's a rabbit bite?! That would be unusual.
Could be a snake, or another cat even...

Darn tired brain...

Tylan/tylosin is painful when it is injected. If you have another antibiotic, I would use it. It certainly wouldn't hurt to irrigate the wound then put some into the wound itself. It just wouldn't be my first choice for a cat because they tend to be hyper anyway.
Tylosin doesn't absorb well from the gut, so injection would be the only way to use it systemically if you choose to use that drug. Just make sure you have enough people holding the cat, so you don't get wounded.
