Hello everyone. It’s been a while since I’ve been here. I’m posting about one of my new chicks. I received them on Tuesday. I kept them in the house all day and most of Wednesday. I put them in the coop Wednesday evening. When I was hanging the heat lamp, it slipped from my hand and the wire hit one of the chicks. At first she was kind of lethargic and wasn’t really using her leg at all. I didn’t think she was going to make it. I checked her later that night before I went to bed and she seemed to be improving. Yesterday, she seemed fine, though still favoring the leg. She is getting around well, the other chicks haven’t been bothering her, and she’s been eating and drinking. She is able To put some weight on the leg but she is definitely favoring it. I have attached a video hoping you guys can give me some insight as to what may be wrong and how I might be able to fix it. I did separate her from her flock this morning so she’s not very happy about that, but I thought it might help her.

ETA: She is able to "run" on it as well.

Sorry for the sideways video....I grew tired of figuring out how to rotate it with what I have installed on the computer...ugh.

Thanks!

I can’t see the video, but they can be posted to youtube with a link here. I would place her back with the rest, and let her move as well as she can. She doesn’t sound like she is seriously injured if she is running. Just watch to make sue that she is getting enough to eat and drink, and that she is not harmed by the other chicks.

Thank you. I will do that. Thank you for your input!

It almost looks like her hip could be dislocated in the video. I really hope it is just a sprain, but tendon injuries can also occur. Maybe others will look at this and have suggestions. Is a vet a possibility? Hopefully she will heal with some rest. Sometimes wrapping a leg for support can be helpful just to reinforce the leg. Strips of vet wrap can be used, but whatever you use, take it off daily and check the circulation. Check the foot often for warmness and swelling if splinting is used.
