Hello. I'm a Canadian, living in Mexico, and I keep backyard chickens. Today I returned from town to find one of my young hens with her leg stuck in the wrought iron of the porch. She had been there a while, judging from the poo pile under her: the dogs alerted me to her plight. I picked her up and gently pulled her leg free, but it now just hangs limp and she is not using it (there are no obvious breaks, and it did not seem to be stuck in an awkward angle, just straight up behind her). When i carried her to her coop and gently put her down she fell flat on her face, and I am very worried, but do not have much experience with this sort of thing (I am new at this). I will see how she is tomorrow, but not sure what to do to make it better. Should I at least keep her in a separate area until she is better? There are other hens that are bullies and I don't want her to have to fight for her food until she is healed. Obviously, everything depends on how she is doing tomorrow. I dont' want her to suffer. Maybe I should give her an ibruprofin solution? Not sure, any ideas or thoughts? She is about five months old, not laying yet, but fully grown.
thank you,
Jessica
