INJURED PULLET, RIGHT EARLOBE PECKED, ADVICE NEEDED

Okay, I went to the Co-op and the girl who is a vet student said to just clean it well, and superglue it back in place (that sounds funny lol), and I also bought some "Back Off," which when sprayed on the hen, stops the others from pecking/attacking, etc. It's meant for hogs and chickens, and really truely smells like nicotine! My chicken is going to smell like a heavy smoker! Anyway, I locked the others outside for a couple hours, so they should be pooped out now.

Could she have been pecked because of the rising hormones around start of lay? they're 20 weeks old.

I put some neosporin on it, and we superglued it back as best we could. Here are some photos of it, the only thing I'm worried about is putting her back with them (I got some back-off spray just in case), and also the injured earlobe is very white, whereas her other one is red.

Here is the injured ear, you can see how white it is, and also if you look carefully where I superglued it back, it was hanging down beforehand. The big red spot in middle is actually a feather that I had to clip back to glue it up.

and Here is what her other ear looks like, normal.

I understand superglue or something similar is used often with even human injuries..
They "glued" me back together after they re-inflated my lung after a car accident.

I always carry super glue in my first aid kit for my family and our animals. My vet told me he used it in Vietnam to patch soldiers together in the field. I have used it on horses and my husband (he is a motocross rider and I get to experiment on him pretty often). Anyway, it is a handy thing to have in an emergency!

They also glued my incision closed last September when I had my neck vertebrae fused.

I hope it works on your chicken! You might have to reapply it daily or every other day for a little while.

Good Luck!

Liberty is doing fine right now, we got a lot of glue on it, and she has stopped shaking her head. We're expecting her to be back with her flock-mates by the end of the week should it heal over quickly. We will put some neosporin on it daily, just to be safe.

Liberty is doing much better now, I've been giving her yogurt since she was pecked, and we put some neosporin on the ear today. She is now telling us she wants to go outside and spend the day in the smaller run, whereas the first night she was not at all interested in going outside. I'm going to keep her inside until saturday, and then she can go back out with the others saturday night, after I spray her with some back-off just to be safe. Her ear looks as if it has started healing well, and it has returned to its red colour. I've also been giving her some aspirin water to help with any pain, though I will probably stop this tomorrow or friday.

Here she is snuggling down for the night in her hospital room.
