I found this rooster wandering behind the church on our road and when I stopped to get a closer look he came walking up to my vehicle. That’s when I discovered his missing/broken top beak and his left eye blinded by a scab.He definitely looks like he had been used in a fighting situation. What can I do to help him?So far I have crumbled up bread for him to eat and he is trying to very hard to do so.Very sweet boy.How can people be so cruel?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Can you post some photos?

Since you found him, see if a vet or an animal shelter will take him in. A lot depends on how much of the beak is missing and the extent of his injuries. A chicken wondering around may have been hit by a car, got attacked by something -a predator like a raccoon is notorious for ripping off body parts or he may have been in a fight - who knows - chickens get injured all the time.

An injured bird needs to be hydrated first, hold a cup to his beak to see if he will drink. Once he is drinking, then offer food - scramble or hard boil an egg, mash it up finely and see if he will eat that.

Will wait for photos to suggest any other treatment.
