Connected but separate ... we had an escapee rooster, which is why we may have fertile eggs, and in the process of returning him to his pen, I think I broke his 'hip'. Does anyone know if this injury would be repairable? He's been on confinement in my bathroom in a cage (per vet advice) for 4 days and he is not improving, but getting a vet to visit is not going well. Any wisdom?

The veterinary advice I've had from vets who I trust is for broken hips and legs the most humane course is to euthanize the bird.
You really need to establish whether you're dealing with a break or a strain and that unless one is very skilled in such matters requires an Xray.

Thank you. I thought that would be a likely scenario.

Knowing the difference is why I wanted to see the vet. That, and I don't have the capability to euthanize him myself.

Update: I finally spoke to the vet. He said it probably isn't broken (since he was stood balancing to preen) but to keep him in the bathroom (crate in the wet room) for another week. If he doesn't improve then he'll need to see someone.
