One week after Nicolas' injury I have resorted to 3 days of injections of Baytril. Today he does not want to drink anything. I have been feeding him with an eye dropper. Now he fights me. It is good to see some feistiness in him. He has also start preening himself, and started picking feed of the ground (indoors on a paper) if I encourage him by stroking his back and then he will lower his head to the floor - that is all good news. Even though I have been giving him electrolytes in the past days I can't get anything in right now... well about 2 ml for the day. Does any one know if Baytril has any side effects. His breathing already seems better.

After the the antibiotic, I will restore his health with probiotics and other healthy stuff.

It seems like chicken rehab.

Thanks, I will get that started tomorrow (need to by a new bottle). I'm also giving him Arnica 200. This is to help an animal (or person) who has gone through severe shock or trauma and is responding slow to other treatment.

some pro-biotic mixes you buy from poultry companies say directly on the bottle not to mix with antibiotics of any kind. best to make a wet mash with real culture yogurt, a hard boiled egg, butter milk or reg milk, some water and some starter feed and shredded apples all blended you can add vitamins to the mix like poly-vi-sol also. try to get him to eat as much as possible sometimes they need a little encouragement and sprinkling a bit of feed or scratch while they are looking at the food will get them started.

good luck!

WoW! Amazing what a day makes. Thank goodness for baby food. I gave Nicolas mixed fruit baby food and yogurt - he just gobbled it up. He had it all over his comb and beak. Today was the last shot of Baytril. Last night I also gave him Arnica 200. He really has improved. Not drinking water yet. We'll see...

Just want to say thanks to all those that provided info. Nicolas is back to his old self. Waking us up in the morning. I'm slowly introducing him back to his coop.
