On Feb. 9th my Silkie rooster was attacked by a weasel, badly injured to the head area. I have brought him in indoors. I have been treating him with Traumeel since Tuesday, (a homeopathic preparation for shock, trama and healing. I have used traumeel for a variety of ailments on a variety of different animals), Oxysol-250 (a water soluble antibiotic powder) and Stress-Aid (vitamin and Electrolytes) since Thursday. I've made a preparation of a vegetable broth, olive oil, molasses, honey, alfalfa (tablet form, disolved), and just today started putting in ground up eggshells. All of this I have to feed him with an eye dropper, he won't eat on his own. This is the 4th day now.

He has something respiratory going on, a rattle or gurgle. Blood may have seeped into his nostrels or lungs. I thought that at first it was open mouth breathing, but I think I have ruled this out as he is not opening his beak every time he takes a breath. He does open his mouth a lot, as if he is eating. It does not apear that any of his wounds are infected.

He is sleeping a lot, if I set him on the floor he just stays there. Once in a while he will stretch out his wings.

My main concern is that he is not eating on his own and that I'm having to force feed. I guess I'm just looking were to go from here and if his healing just takes time. Or do I have a brain injured rooster. He's a fighter, and has not given up yet, and either have I.

Looking for advice. :(Fundychic

Often times resp. infections will come forward in times of stress. He is still sore from the attack and it will take a lot of time for him to heal up.

There could be nerve or even brain damage as the skull on a Silkie has the vault and it seems they are prone to brain injuries.

Give the Silkie a few more days to come around, it sounds like you are doing all that can be done for him.
