Hello,

this morning I saw my female Muscovy duck injured, and I think it's probably from the male duck, and now I don't know what should I do... is there is something that I should do for the injury? and what can I do?

I have 2 female ducks, and one drake.

The Vetericyn, I don't have it right now, till i get it, is there is another replacement? I don't know if turmeric is good to ducks as it is good to us, but can i use it on her?

If you have an antibiotic ointment (the kind without pain reliever in it), you could apply it to the wound after cleaning it. Coconut oil has antimicrobial properties, so that may be an option, and honey also has wound healing properties (i.e., anti-inflammatory, antibacterial).

There other wound healing sprays on the market, too, so you might be able to find something else locally.

I haven't used turmeric topically on waterfowl, but this article has some info you may find interesting. If nothing else, cleaning the wound, keeping it dry, keeping the drake away from her, and keeping her healthy (you could offer a vitamin supplement like Nutri-Drench if you have it) should help her heal.

Getting a few more ducks may help relieve the breeding pressure. Is she his favorite? Does the other duck show any signs of breeding stress, like missing feathers?

thank you so much for this helpful information, I really appreciate it

the other female duck was his favorite, but now she has a duckling and she's sitting on some eggs, so, he switch to Robby "the injured duck".

thankfully, Robby's behavior is the same, she didn't change, but I'm still worried about her, and I'm gonna do what you told me to do :)

Whether it's the drake or not, you do need to separate until this is healed or taken care of. However, you should also check to see where the blood is coming from. If it's the feathers it's not that big of a deal. It just means the feather was broken where the blood supply is. But if that is the case, you need to put corn starch or styptic powder to stop any active bleeding. If it's the skin/meat area that is wounded, you need to clip the feathers back around the wound and flush with clear water. You can apply neosporin if it's an actual wound. If an actual wound, the bird needs to be separated until fully healed.
Muscovy have sharp claws and drakes are huge. I've had mine for years with no flesh wounds. If your drake is causing flesh wounds, you will want to trim and file his nails. Not a one person job unless your birds are very tame. Broken feathers will happen regardless. Just clean her up and find the source. As well it might not be the drake at all, so look around to see if she could have hurt herself on anything in the area that she is kept.

fortunately, the bleeding stopped from yesterday. I got scared because I have the ducks for nearly 2 years but this is the first time I saw a duck bleeding. I will do my best to follow your instructions and will try to trim his nails. (in the vets lmao, I cant do it alone).

thank you so much for all the info :)
