I went out this morning to feed my chickens and I found that one of my hens had been torn open. Her chest is ripped open and looks like her stomach is exposed and I can see the chicken feed is inside.. Is there anything I can do help her? Please help me! :(

No. It's pretty much over for her if the stomach is exposed and you can see the feed. :( poor girl. I hope all goes well for you on whatever you decide to do for her. I accidentally stepped on one of my chicks and its intestines came out. There was nothing I could do. Good luck to you, do update.

How big is the wound? Apart from taking her to a vet,not really. When you say her stomach is exposed,is it just showing or is her stomach torn open also? If just showing through torn skin, then clean wound pull skin together, you can use superglue to glue skin together if wound is large(you can suture wound,if suturing tie off each stitch). Make sure this is cleaned several times a day,put antibiotic ointment on wound(nothing ending in "caine"toxic to chickens). Give her electrolytes and vitamins for shock. You can get Metacam from a vet for pain relief or give baby aspirin(80mg) dose is 25mg per pound of body weight. Aspirin does thin the blood,so make sure she does not have heavy bleeding from wound before giving. Make sure she is eating and drinking. Keep her separate and away from other chickens,in the house is best. Keep her quiet and warm. Watch for flies, you don't want wounds to become infested with maggots.

This is a pic of what it looks like. Has anyone ever seen anything like this before? This is my first time raising chickens.

Hi Sorry to hear about your chicken. Sounds bad. What do you think got her?

I too have an injured hen. The aspirin seems to work well and the antibiotic creme. Maybe you can try that. A fox got our hen. We chased the fox away, and it dropped the hen. But it had already done its damage in two main areas - probably where it grabbed her and bit down - under the wing and abdomen area.

She went into shock and I am keeping her quiet and in a dark warm room.

I just dont know what to do for Big Bertha. I know she is in pain and it hurts me to see her like this. I have posted a pic of what it looks like. if there is anything i can do for her please someone tell me. :( I need ur help!!

Hi spoiledbrat.
Poor thing! Big Bertha Hen 's wound does look bad. Try aspirin , it worked for mine. She is also probably in shock. Can you move her to a quiet dark place that is safe for her? Put antibiotic creme already.
I have never seen such a wound before, but I am not experienced like the others on here.

Ten Chicks comment says not to use any antibiotic with "caine" in it. But neosporin has 3 ingredients in it with "caine" in it.
Ten Chicks, what type of antibiotic is good?

Keep us posted.

Use reg triple antibiotic ointment, the one without pain relief.
