So today I just noticed one of my hens has a big hole on her back. Idk if it's an injury from a predator? Or a parasite? Any help would be appreciated!

. They must have smelled her blood and it triggered them. However, I know they weren't the original cause of the wound as they've been inside all day.I agree. The blood is very dark and crusted and the flesh is inflamed. This wound has to be at least a day old, maybe longer (it seems like there's even a bit of scabbing near the tail on the first pic.)So sorry. Were they out yesterday? That wound looks like it could be a day old.
I'm not sure it's a raptor since there's no talon marks where the raptor would have held on and pinned her. This looks more like the work of a long-snouted canine -- fox maybe? Our chickens free range all day. We have bald eagles here, so I'm thinking maybe one tried to grab her and failed. It was a deep wound. We didn't notice it on her till today.
