Injury or attack?

As long as she is not bleeding, I would return her to the flock as soon as is possible. Just monitor the reintroduction. Expect possible sparring. The longer you wait the more difficult the reintroduction will be.

Really?? I never thought about taking another one out with the injured one.

It will be easier for her going back into the flock with a friend. When you pull her out of the group she will lose her pecking order and be at the bottom when rejoining. A friend will help with her not be alone in this time. The wound should be covered so the other hen joining her doesn't peck at the area.

We pulled her around noon yesterday... I can get her back out there around 5pm today. Do you think that's okay? I will be putting the blue dye on her so she doesn't set off a "RED" alert.

If we keep her longer than today, I think I will pull the other leghorn I have since they have been buddies since birth. 15 of the 17 have been together since being shipped as day old chicks. Doesn't change instinct though... I would hope they live in harmony! LOL

Okay! We sprayed her with blu kote and released her with the other chickens outside. They were curious about her blue neck but didn’t peck. Then they went about foraging. I left them for an hour or two.
Then I checked on them tonight and she was on the lowest point to roost by herself. Which is the bar in front of the nest boxes. I had one other girl on the 2nd roost, and the other 15 were on the top one. I think we’ll be okay. I think! But she might have to work her way back up a little. Or stay there I guess since there has to be a low man(or girl) on the totem pole.

Thanks everyone for your help!
