My Chicken Got Hurt By A Predetor Idk If It's A dog Or Something It Bit It's Neck And Went Through Its Skin On The Back Is It Goona Be Able To Survive ? and Wich Animal Could've Attacked It? help!!

Chickens seem to possess amazing recuperative powers. Wash her wounds off with saline solution, then put Neosporin (NO Caine formula) on them. Check her often to see that the area doesn't get infected and especially keep her away from flies , even if she must be kept inside for awhile. Flies lay their eggs in wounds and once the maggots hatch they cause a whole lot of misery . and can migrate thru the body.

You could go to the predator threads and describe what happened to her, the wounds, and if you found any damage to coop/run etc. where predator came in. They may be able to pinpoint the type of predator and offer advice on eliminating them.

The predator will be back, so please beef up security in your coop and run. Look for any weak spots on construction or openings where preds can squeeze through.

If your birds free range, injury and loss is just something you have to accept. Chickens do not need to free range to be happy. If they have a nice secure, spacey run it's fine for them.

Welcome to BYC!

Sorry about your bird. You might want to put some antibiotics in her water to help prevent infection. If you can give penicillin injections, that would be best. But if not, some Amoxicillin or Sulfadimethoxine in the water might help. I would also use some antibiotic ointment on the wound to also help with infection. Keep her by herself away from the others but within the flock. Maybe in a cage so there is not reintroductions. If she looks cold, you might give her some heat too. Trauma causes birds to do into shock and it makes them very cold.

You might also post this in our emergency section for more help...

I hope your bird is going to be ok.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! You've gotten some good advice above, hope your bird is OK.

I agree with all the advise you've been given. My feed store carries a spray which I use on my chicken dogs cats. etc.. keeps the bad things away and promotes healing. With luck she'll be ok.
