Ink On Eggs... Pen or Sharpie?

What kind of ink should I use to label hatching eggs? Is it poisonous and can maybe get through the shell and affect the hatch? Thanks

I've used a Sharpie on hundreds of eggs.

I use an Ultra fine point sharpie.

I use a big fat dark sharpie, it is easy to see and have no trouble at all. It is safe.
