Input please!

How is Schrodie today? I just caught up with the thread, seems you are doing everything to help. Hope he is doing well ❤
Schrodie seems to be doing pretty well! Eating/drinking/pooping etc. has gotten the zoomies a few times today 🥰 the injury appears to be turning yellowish, but I’m not sure if that’s from ointments or if it’s from infection 🤔 Schrodie really likes scrambled eggs and flinging the small bits and then chasing after them in the tote. I have brought my old nanny hen in to see if she wants to buddy up with him. She has taught many a chick in my flock how to be a chicken and she is the absolute bottom of the pecking order. She is perturbed with me at the moment, but I’m not sure what else to do to teach him how to be a bird at this point. I have 33 chickens, 2 donkeys, 2 horses, 3 dogs, a 3 year old son and a garden working hard on coming into full on tomato explosion, so I simply don’t have loads of “free” time to sit with Schrodie and socialize. I so wish it wasn’t an open wound and she could carry on in my shirt for chores and stuff. Her (or his, I’m not sure so I alternate at random) morale seems great when I’m around but so low when I come in sporadically through the day😞
Attached pictures of Nanny hens displeasure for tax❤️ Thank y’all for the encouragement to keep trying 🥰

So this morning I got up and went to Schrodie, who is SO LOUD in the mornings for a hello, and we had pasty butt🤦‍♀️ So I have been doing my best to stay on top of that situation, but every time there’s a poop, it sticks and it’s like clear goo most of the time. We have electrolytes and probiotics in the waterer, scrambled eggs and wet chick starter in the feeder and I clean the brooder once a day with a vinegar solution and put a fresh puppy pad on the bottom after it’s all wiped out and aired out. I know that the brooder temp is 94-95F. Schrodie has the zoomies when I am present and has bright blinking eyes. The feather situation is bizarre to me because the cute fuzzy portion of chick life has evaded Schrodie since hatch. I’m not sure if that’s going to pose a problem for temperature regulation. As far as the pasty butt goes, I know the eating and drinking is up to snuff for Schrodie but I am unsure if this is a sign of infection that may be imminent or if it is a stress thing. Anyone have input or thoughts? I have run out of free info passes with the “bird lady” vet and she is not interested in seeing this small of a critter.
Hope y’all are having a great weekend!

Cute picture! I love hearing about how you're taking care of the sweetheart! It's good to know there are people that will not give up on a life, no matter how small, and take care of them the best they can! Thanks for the updates, glad to hear Schrodie is doing well, besides a little pasty butt, I agree with above, he needs a place too cool off. Also if the temperature of the water fluctuates a lot it can also cause this.

We have had pasty butt for long enough I am concerned 😟 I will keep trying to make all the conditions as best I can for Schrodie, but I’m worried about what variables I can’t control may be affecting this little one. We eat and drink like a champ and never stop peeping, and I mean peeping like a boss! I can hear Schrodie peep when I’m outside 😳 as far as water temperature goes, I try to keep it tepid from the get go so we don’t have that much of temperature variation. It’s hard to tell since Schrodie is the only one in the tote what may be the culprit. No other subjects to indicate an upset if that makes sense.
I wish I could find a “gaping wound healing chart” or something along those lines so I knew what the flesh may look like as time progresses. I think there is some decent granular tissue forming over the wing, but it’s difficult to see what may or may not be happening vs what may or may not be normal or considered normal progress. I know we are only at a week old today, so as long as we are eating and drinking and gaining weight we are still moving in a positive direction! Thanks for reading 🙃

You could give the chick a few tiny bits of chilled coconut oil so that it is solid, to peck and eat. If the hen is letting Schrodie sleep under her, you might do them both a favor and put them in a wire dog crate with better ventilation. The hen probably is miserable in a Tote and with it so warm. Make sure that she is drinking plenty of water, and keep the vent cleaned up with mild soap and warm water.

Fingers crossed for Schrodie. I hope he gets better with the pasty butt!

Nanny hen is not residing in the house with Schrodie, but it would be lovely if they would buddy up later in this adventure ❤️
