(insert swear words here) Kidney stones!!! UPDATE # 42

my DH has them too. Both sides. He had the blasting done on one side and he has to wait 6 months before they'll do the otherside.

Good luck to ya!

I had one for 4 months and they treated me for a uti! They finally decided it was something else when my urine started looking like chocolate milk from all the infection, I also could not take the percocet they ordered, makes me puke. They finally did lithotripsy and afterward I felt like an elephant had danced on my back. I told them the next time they could just take the kidney out. The only thing that helped was rocking and (really weird) bouncing when I walked. I would bounce/walk all day long. I really feel for you, kidney stones are the pits.

Hope you are better soon and that you have some kind supportive people looking out for you! Prayers sent.

I tend to get kidney stones when I've had too much milk for an extended period of time. Try to prevent recurrence by:
-limiting cow's milk intake

and take supplements
-apple cider vinegar
-dandelion

Qi chicken recommended "Stone formula" ... I got some at the health food store when my last bout began, and taking that, the acv and dandelion PLUS drinking lots of water PLUS eliminating dairy from my diet for about a week... they finally passed without going back to the doc.

Believe me, I understand the pain. And after my first ones got shot with the laser treatment, the waiting around to "catch" them to make sure they get out. Soooo not fun.

Good luck.

I cant take ANY narcotics I react to them all... it sux trust me... so i am stick with Naproxen..

I know what you mean about the bouncing and walking... I paced the halls of the hospital .. I crouched down like i was tying my shoes but mt back had to be straight... i would grip a hold of the top of the door and just ease the weight off my feet not totally hang there but it would pull everything straight and ease a bit too... if i had a chin up bar I would be set...

I dont drink much milk at all... I dont even use it in tea.. I would say I drink about 500ml of milk a WEEK and thats a generous estimate... the surgeon said it could also be meat protein from to much red meat... well I dont eat a lot of red meat... but it could also be from taking calcium supplements. I was prescribed them because I dont eat a lot of natural calcium

why did they wait to do the other side?... they (my surgeon) said he would scope the other side and treat if necessary

Are they placing a renal stent? Hopefully looking at the makeup of the crystals will help them determine the cause so future bouts can be limited.

he doesn't know yet he wants go get in and have a look... because this is my first bout.. he said its doubtful he will have to do it.. but if this becomes a reoccurring thing then yes

and yes he said he wants to do testing on the stone to see what the make up is... I have a potty seat that attaches to the toilet seat and have been using that in case it passes before surgery.. but post op i will have to catch the sand and send it in .. (i have many urine cones already)

The pits!

I get plagued by stones, too, and so does one of my favorite doctors. He gets them more than me, but he swears by lemon juice in water all day long, the ascorbic acid can help dissolve the stones before they get caught in the tubing to cause pain.

And don't let anybody fool you into thinking a 2mm stone is nothing compared to their 8mm stone! It doesn't seem to matter the size, just that it gets stuck and backs up your plumbing! I've had patients with a kidney the size of a football just because a 2mm stone was stuck down in their uvj (down by the bladder).

After my lithotripsy I looked like the kids had kicked me downhill for a mile. That took a good 3 months to recover from.

Now, I wonder if A) getting upside down, like a somersault and B) ascorbic acid/lemon juice/vitamin C and C) Latin Salsa Dancing might help wiggle the next stone down & out?

Plus, I agree with OP's that dairy makes it a lot worse. It causes more inflammation, and messes with your calcium and phosphorous blood levels which makes hard stones. The sandy stones don't seem to be that much of a problem. But for me, milk and cheese and butter make my stones show up again!

OMG, I wish you luck. I really, really do.
