(insert swear words here) Kidney stones!!! UPDATE # 42

Infertility and kidney stones? Had both. No one ever suggested accupuncture for the infertility and I did everything but stand on my head. I do believe that the infertility is why I had the kidneystone for so long without losing my mind. The discomfort from some of the tx made me not notice the pain so much. If I had a choice between a stone and a hystosalpingogram?? Not quite sure. Except the hysto is over quite quickly.

how do I know if I passed the stone?

heres what happened... Because the ER doc said because I have been dealing with this since December its very unlikely that I will pass it on my own so he set up the surgery...

Yesterday I went to my family doc for an unrelated issue and asked if he received the paperwork from the hospital and informed I will be having surgery next week. He asked me what the hospital gave me for pain, I told him Naproxen... he said... well thats not strong enough cause I was having break through pain... he then wrote me a script for Torodol..(*** read noted at bottom for medicine info).. So last night @ 3 I took the first dose of Torridal and took the second dose @ 930 when I went to bed....

I slept through the night (which is a first since December when this started).. I went to the bathroom this afternoon and there was something in the toilet.. I was @ Ikea though so its not like I can whip out a glove and fish through the toilet. When I googled a pic of a kidney stone it looked the same...

Whats the chances that with the stronger meds it reduced the swelling enough to allow the stone to pass?... I have not had a pill since 6 this morning... no urge to pee all the time (to the point it was uncomfortable 24/7) all this is GONE

Surgeon said wait a few days, dont take meds unless symptoms return.. if symptoms dont return by Tuesday there will be no surgery on Thursday..

BUT what if they have just calmed down for now?... Because I am a big girl they didnt show on the ultrasound even @ the hospital... but they showed on the CT... they like to limit the amount of CT's you get cause of the amount of radiation

***MEDS... Torodol is a very potent NSAID and is used for moderately severe pain that usually requires narcotics. The overall analgesic effect of 30 mg of ketorolac is equivalent to that of 6 to 12 mg of morphine. Efficacy has been demonstrated for postsurgical pain including oral, orthopedic, gynecologic, and abdominal procedures. Efficacy for acute musculoskeletal pain has also been shown. Its antipyretic activity is significant. Anti-inflammatory activity is achieved only at doses higher than those needed for analgesia. Ketorolac causes ulcers more frequently than any other NSAID and is, therefore, not used for more than five days

Naproxen provides effective relief in acute traumatic injury and for acute pain associated with migraine, tension headache, postoperative pain, postpartum pain, pain consequent to various gynecologic procedures, and the pain of dysmenorrhea (PMS)

OOh..maybe you did pass it! That would be gooood!
I'd say they should give you another CAT scan just to be safe...

that you passed it!
I know when I have had them, they hurt like **ll until they pass and then the relief is immediate. I also know that they don't really go anywhere until the meds knock down the pain. I think the happy drugs make everything relax enough to let it just go on through. I would guess (and I am definitely NOT a doctor) that if you don't have the urge to go and nothing hurts, then you have passed that sucker. WHOOHOO!!

I'm sorry you have had to suffer so long. I am a firm believer in better living through pharmaceuticals when it comes to kidney stones.
