Inside out egg and I'm freaking!! Pics!

I agree! That yolk is wonderful!!!!!!

Ya know, I just don't think it could all be food related either. I'm getting one of those from an EE, about every other day. It's a green membrane, so I know which breed, but not which chicken that's laying it. However, no one is acting sick, no one is getting pushed from the feed (they eat in shifts! Bossy first, then the middle man, and then the lowest in pecking order) They have 24/7 access to layer pellets, oyster shells, and water. They free range from morning to night, but always with access to go back into the coop to eat and lay. The first one I saw was when the chicks first started laying (Flock has only been laying a month now.) I was freaked only because my dog ate it before I could take a pic. Now I have an egg sucker!! Anyway, I'm providing them the food, and atmosphere most beneficial to a chicken, and that's all I can do. If something is wrong genectical with this chicken, nothing I can do about it. I did offer them the oyster shell dust and layer mash mixed with yogurt today and made sure that ALL the EE's got a healthy dose of it. I dunno if it will do any good or not.

Thanks for all of the great responses folks. I knew I could count on BYC-ers to understand. Especially about the "freak out" on my part. I still just don't understand. These girls have been laying predictably and reliably for nearly two years now....even straight through the winter with six feet of accumulated snow on the ground! They are such amazing girls.

You may have something there Tina...It may just be that one of my beloved girls is having a mid life crisis.

I seriously doubt it came from one of the BR's though. That silly trio hasn't the first clue nor inclination as yet when it comes to egg laying. Couple that with the fact that they're still about 4-6 weeks away from that age..... They still think nest boxes are for taking a morning constitutional in!

Yup! Every morning includes cleaning out the dirty mischief they've been up to in the evening before, so the rest of the girls have some place nice and clean to lay. And believe me..if their nest boxes aren't nice and clean, they go looking for someplace outside more to their liking. I've learned to keep the coop as close to spotless as I can and not break the bank on pine shavings!

Anyhow, I just wanted to say thank you to all those who have chimed in on this matter. I'm resting a bit easier as no one has raised a shriek of alarm or told me to "quick, go out and get the following as you're about to lose one of your girls:....." So, thanks BYC'rs! You're the best!!

ETA: Oh, and thank you for the compliments on the yolk color. I'll be sure to let the girls know that shells not withstanding, they're doing a good job! That's pretty standard fare in the color department...must be all of that good free ranging, huh?
