My about 1 year old geese hens have been sitting on eggs. 1 more so than the other. Missy who has been sitting quite religiously has lost a lot of weight and her first gosling hatched today. Lucy who sits occasionally has gotten quite aggressive. Where before Lucy was tame and Missy was aggressive. Well now for the problem. Neither goose will take care of the gosling. I would put the gosling in the nest and check a couple hours later and it would be out again. Tried both nests. I thought instinct would take over? Or because this is the first are they just a little bit a green horn on what to do? I had to bring it inside and put under a heat lamp because it was shivering so bad.

Good for you to rescue the little thing, although most geese are great moms there is always an exception to the rule. Are they sitting on more eggs and do you think more will hatch? maybe if more hatch in the coming days[ again watch out and make sure they are caring for the goslings], but I'm thinking if more hatch you'll be able to put the lil on inside with the rest.

Being young maybe contributing to the problem too.

Yes Miss Lydia they still have eggs. I can hear 2 more chirping inside the egg and one has cracked the shell. Taking a long time to get out. If not out by tomorrow I may have to assist.
