Whatthecheep
Chirping
Hi all - looking for some suggestions - I have 5 6wk old chicks in a brooder with 9 3wk old chicks (mix of EE's and silkies). The 6 week easter Eggers are the same size as my 12 week bantams, but the 12 week golden comets are obviously much larger than the newbies. They are in a separated crate in the coop shared by everyone. We also have 2 10 week pekin ducks who share the space (the female wasn't too keen when the crate appeared), the golden comets don't show any interest, although we have a old english game bantam rooster who seems to constantly check them out.
I am looking for advice on getting them together. I am not too worried about the Easter Eggers- but my 3 week old silkies are so tiny compared to the rest, and they walk through the crate bars, run around, and then go back in. No one seems to be bothered by it, but I am nervous. I know I can do this differently, but I am looking to see if there is a danger at this point and if the little guys will be okay. The 12 week Olds are still young, so hoping they will happily accept them and I can get everyone together soon.
Thanks for reading a long post - and looking forward to your suggestions!
I guess I am just tired of keeping the brooder in the garage and they are so ready to be outdoors! We also have an attached run (which is a mess right now due to so much rain) and I also let the oldest out to free range during the evening hours.
