Hello,
I don't know much about ducks and took home a rescue Crested Duck today. I also didn't know what type of special care those ducks will need yet, but through brief websurfing, I now know I will need to prepare.

Would I quarantine him and can I add him to a regular chicken coop?

I made a ghetto pen for him and he already got through. If my roosters chase him will be be smart enough to hide back in the pen?
Thank you, all!

Is it for sure a drake? (You kept calling it "him.")

Drakes are dangerous around hens, as they can seriously injure or kill them while mating. I'm sure you were acting on a good impulse, but this might not be something you want to wade into...

Quaratine him, or a couple ays atleast. An take note in his behavior, as Mother o Chaos sai. rakes can be angerous aroun hens, but. Our rakes we ha, were never angerous aroun our Chickens (Both Hens an Roosters, irent Ages). Some rakes can be angerous to Chickens, but some can not. o you ree roam your chickens? or have a big pen or them to roam? I made a ghetto pen for him and he already got through. If my roosters chase him will be be smart enough to hide back in the pen? Also i he is a Rescue, i woul check him over (look at his eyes, in his eathers, by his beak, etc...) to see i he has any Injuries or Illness Symptoms/Signs. I you o see any Injuries or Illness Symptoms/Signs, Keep him away rom your other chickens. igure out his Injury or Illness an treat him until he is better, then you can introuce him to the chickens. I you o nee help introucing them to your chickens i have introuce ucks an little chicks to our oler chickens

i your roosters chase him, then he might just run away. Our rakes never pecke or chase our Chickens back, i they chase them away. They always ran away, ucks are ast runners (rom when i ha them). So, i your roosters chase him. Then he shouln't get hurt or kille (but there is a chance, still), I woul see what your Roosters o with him, an how your uck reacts to all your chickens. Incluing the Roosters, How many Roosters o you have?

I had fun with your reaponse because of the missing d's and f's. It was a good work out for 1st thing in the morning :)

I have 1 5 month rooster and one 4 month old rooster. We also free roam the chickens but they're fenced in a large yard. I believe the duck is 1 or 2 months old. We have 16 hens.

My duck also got through already last night so I'm hoping he'll be smart enough to run back in when I'm gone at work.

The lady called it a him but it's a month or 2 old so I cannot tell yet. I may look for a new home for it if it gives me clues of being a boy

Super Cute! i he's 2 months ol, an has no Illnesses or Injuries. I woul try to introuce him to your chickens As soon as possible, i think this woul be a great age or introcing him to them. But, i woul monitor his an the other chickens behavior

As i sai, i think this is a great time to introuce your uck to the chickens. I woul o it as soon as Possible, what i woul o when Introucing them is i put my Younger Chickens or Younger ucks in the coop with a pen (that has something covering the top, so nothing can get in) an then i let them both get use to each other, then i let them out ater a week or so

Yeah, i your chickens chase your uck. He will run, an probably even hie rom them. So, i wouln't worry about it too much
