Hello,

I have three silkie babies that are not vaccinated for marecks.

I am soon going to get two delawares to add to my flock.

What are the risks for my silkies?

Will they contract the disease?

Should i wait to integrate them until the have "age immunity"?

Hey silkiechick05! I am not an expert on this subject, but I don't know if Marek's is the only thing to worry about - chickens are prone to many diseases. My advice is to keep the Dels away from the Silkies for 30 days - don't let them even share the same air space. If no one exhibits any signs of sickness it might then be safe to integrate the flock. Keep in mind that there are some diseases that don't exhibit until the bird is of a certain age - I've heard of people having an entirely healthy flock and then at about 5 months their birds start getting sick.

For more info, search your subject in the handy dandy BYC search box up there on the right. You'll find tons of information that may be helpful to you. Good luck!
