My Coop
My Coop
i have 11 buff orpingtons that are not three months old yet, then three polish same age,sex unknown as of yet but I believe mostly pullets , then 14 polish babies that are 4 weeks old all pullets in my coop and run with 4 female ducks
My friend gave me a giant looking 4/5 month old wyondotte Rooster. I introduced them all to him . A couple of my orpingtons tried to square up on him but that was short lived , he pecked them to the ground . Everyone is scared to death of this new arrival except one polish that stays beside him and two orpingtonts that keep attempting to stand off with him. So at bed time I went to put them up ( they go in before I get there every night) everyone was inside except this new rooster and that one polish perching outside ( she always goes in) Sorry so long I’m getting to my point. I put her inside and left him out sleeping on a porch ( it’s enclosed) now this morning when we let them all out He’s more aggressive running everyone away from the food and not letting them eat.

It would be best if you separated the new rooster by a fence for a few weeks until the rest get familiar with him. He's also sexually maturing, so he will be hormonal. That's another reason to keep him separately for a while until yours mature more.

Well I didn’t do that and he’s been with them for two days now , some pullets like him and always perchbwith him but there’s stull some pecking going on here and there with the orpingtons
Will he try to mate with them even if they are not ready?

More than likely, yes....or at least 'dominate' them.
Not many young cockerels know to leave an immature female alone.
..and it can be quite stressful for the young females.

That's a lot of birds...hope you have ample space in coop and run...and places the females can get away from him. Multiple fed and water stations spread far apart is essential in this situation.

I definitely need a bigger run in my opinion and we are planning to build one soon but for now they are all real small they are 3weeks, and 6 weeks old so what I have is ok for now, and yes they have ample food and water and boxes and perches and swings thruout. So far he’s doing great he himself is only four months old so this integration has actually went well
