I have 5 18 week old hens currently. I have the opportunity to add 2 Marans in about 4 months or so. At that time the new birds will be 4 months old and my current flock will be 8.5 months old.

What can I expect when introducing the new birds?

What precautions should I take (quarantine length, how to transition them in, etc)?

Thanks
Suzie

You'll want to quarantine them for a month, during which time you don't treat with anitbiotics of any kind. It they're sick, you want them to get sick so that you can identify it.

Do a search on BYC for biosecurity for more details on that. You'll want to avoid cross-contamination.

After that, search for "integrating new birds" for info & details on that. There's a lot more on BYC than I can possibly type.

Congrats on the new girls. Lucky you - dark eggs!!
