The Sniper
In the Brooder
As I always do, when I have new chicks I keep them separated until they are nearing adulthood, and then I put them in a dog kennel next to the chicken pen for a few days so all the other chickens can get used to them without, ya know, murdering them (the roosters are very exited to see new hens). Today was the merge day, and I put my little ladies into the pen.
There was minimal violence, only one other chicken bothered them at all, but for some reason they refuse to go anywhere but next to the fence where the kennel is. Ive never had any do this before. I moved the kennel away to see if that would work, and somehow they got out and went to the kennel. The fence is 6 feet tall and there is no way through. I only have 1 chicken that ever gets out, and she stays out 24/7 anyway, the roosters love her too much.
Is there any normal reason 5 girls would escape a pen to go to a kennel they only spent a few days in?
Another question, why would 2 campbell ducks dig holes under a fence so they can live in a chicken pen and struggle to drink from nipple waterers
we have 2 ponds and 15 ducks and 18 geese, yet those 2 ducks get into the chicken pen every day
