We bought another hen, approx. 1yr old same as the 3 hens we have, as one of our hens was being somewhat ignored by the other two. Two Scot’s greys were ignoring the Plymouth Rock. I’d been watching a programme on chickens which said chickens seem to like other chickens the same colour and I really wanted a welsummer so I sourced a welsummer.
She integrated within 2days. There have been no problems at all apart from one night she was tardy going into the chicken coop and we didn’t notice so she spent the night outside. She is now the first chicken in the coop every night bless her.
My issue is we got one egg the day after she arrived and one 3 days later then nothing. We’ve tried keeping her shut in the pen to ensure she’s not laying somewhere in the garden we haven’t found, but again nothing. We’ve had her coming up for 4wks now. she’s learned what treats are, isn’t so spooked at the sight of us and will follow us around the garden with other chickens. Isn’t quite up to taking food from our hands yet but seems fairly settled. How long before we can expect her to start laying again?

Is there anything in particular we can do to make her feel safer? I’m not worried about getting eggs from her we’ve more eggs than we can deal with from the 3 hens and 2 ducks. But I’d like her to feel secure in her environment.

Nothing but time. She may molt a little.
Watch for any sign of illness, mucus, sneezing, bubbles etc. Typically. a month long quarantine is recommended to avoid adding sick birds to your flock.
