Started integration this morning. Six almost 10 week old pullets (will be 10 weeks on Thursday), to the year Golden. Have 3 feeders & waterers in there. Hen can't protect all :gig. Got hose ready in case it is needed. Closed the grow out coop so they can't get trapped in there. Opened the doors on the look but no touch run. They have roosts and hiding spots too.
She did a few pecks, nothing hard, just the get out my way, I'm Queen. After that she would run up on them and they run away from her. Golden does a reminder on them every now and then.
All in all going good so far.
Will open grow out coop, going to let them decide when they are ready to go in the big coop. Like I did last year, it worked out.
So far so good.

Removed the wire chick run from the run this morning. Been quiet for going on 4 hours. A few squawks but nothing bad, that came from 1 black sexlink. I was watching. She puffed up her chest to the year old. Thought she would challenge. She got a peck and a little chase. Took her down a peg or two. There always has to be 1 :lau

I think integrating chicks is easier than integrating a hen or rooster set in their ways. My chicks were a piece of cake compared to 22 week laying hens. I think it's the competition :lau my OE doesn't let anyone show her up so when two layers showed up it was quite dramatic for a few days.

That's probably true, have integrated chicks twice, never ones already laying.
Processed the 3 non layers on Sunday. Started integration yesterday. Locked the chicks in grow out coop last night. So early this morning I could remove the barrier without their so called help. They have peeked in the big coop, but haven't ventured in. They will when they are comfortable. That's what the year old & her sister (passed away) did. I let them decide when they were comfortable with the older hens. So going to do the same with these 6 little ones.
Going to watch and see if she tries to get them to go into the big coop with her.

Great!
Having only one hen, and the others recently removed, helps.
Shook up her world, providing some distraction.

Yeah removing the 3 definitely changed things. That's why I thought integration next morning while her world has changed.
That challenge was funny as all get out.
