Hello,

We are integrating our two 10 week old chick's to our 6 month old flock. We set them up in separated spaces for about a week on and off and then let them be together a bit. Due to weather here in MN we put them together sooner than we wanted. For the most part the older girls chase them a little and peck here and there but nothing too bad. But the little ones keep to themselves mostly. Is this normal and will it change? The chicks are 100% out with the big ones for the past week. Thanks!

It is completely normal, and it will change. One day you’ll let everyone out and notice all is well. There will still be little squabbles here and there, but that is normal. As long as nobody is chasing anyone down and plucking feathers they will work it out amongst themselves.

We, too, were integrating and had to move the pullets sooner than we wanted because of the weather. They stay by themselves. I still have to bring a few of them in at night because they won't come in with the others. They have been locked in with the others for a few days (-16 degrees this morning in WY) are are doing fine.

Thanks, I assumed as much. They chase them away some now but no chasing them down and attacking. Barely see them even peck them, but that may be because the chick's are too fast 😅

One thing to consider is to set up multiple feeding / watering areas. This tends to cut down on the pecking and chasing, since the reason they act that way to begin with is to instinctually protect their resources.

Sounds good!
Are they all in the same coop at night?

Here's how to add your general geographical location to your profile.
It's easy to do, and then it's always there!
