Could be my EE, June, but she was in the nest next to the one where I found this soft-shelled egg. It cracked when I picked it out of the back of the nest and I put it in a bowl I had with me, so that's why all the straw. This photo is completely unretouched except for making it smaller and was taken without a flash outside on the deck with overcast skies. I had one recently that was similar, but not quite this dark. This really is as intensely colored as it appears in the photo. Any idea what causes that? Usually, soft shells are lighter in color, not dark.

What is puzzling me is that June's eggs are usually light green. Now, could be that my blue Ameraucana, Nora, is having issues. I agree, it's a cool color! Wish they were normally like that!

I think you've got a BIG Robin in your coop!

Wow but it sure is pretty. Maybe whoever will start laying them like that with normal shells.

amazing color! Would be a real show stopper wouldnt it? If you had a carton of those at a show, with the issues ironed out, everybody would walk by and say WOW!
interesting. Kind of looks like its a new bird to laying, you know how they do that sometimes when they first start?
Mine were the opposite when they started , I went to crack one and it bounced off the bowl. they were A little tough for a first egg. But some of my freinds hens when they started laid a few with thin shell then picked up more calcium and now nice eggs. You'll have to keep us posted if you find out which one lays these. I got a pale almost white egg the other day looked out of place with the pinkish brown ones. they are all australorps
