I know this is a very old thread, but since there is a new post, I thought I would chime in.
What I do when I have a problem with hens being brutal with other hens is I spray them with the hose. I only do this if I am concerned about them really hurting each other.
With the garden hose on the tight stream I stand out side the chicken yard and wait.... when one of the hens is attacking I spray that hen. Seems to take care of it for me in a day or two.
The only time that didn't work with my most dominate hen I put her in chicken "jail" several days, then added her back in to the flock. She never was a problem after that. Must have taken some of the dominance out of her.
