Hello! I'm still fairly new to incubating. This is my fourth time and I'm having a few problems. You can find out about them,a on my first two threads.

I'd like to know more about pips. When the chick internally pips, do they leave their beak in the air sac to externally pip in that spot too? Or do they take it out and do it somewhere else? Also, is it possible for the chick to be breathing if it hasn't internally pipped yet?

I've had plenty of chicks external pip well away from the air cell so I'd say no. One might external pip at the bottom edge of the air cell but they need to cut around the egg big enough they can squeeze out when they zip. That might be a challenge if they tried zipping in the air cell.

No, the rest of the egg is liquid. They'd drown if they tried breathing in that.

Ok, weird. It really looks as though he's breathing. If he pipped the air sac, and then put his beak back in, than wouldn't that be the same? Because he's putting his beak back into the liquid.
