internal Layer??

My hen Della has never been a good or consistent layer. She started laying in December and has been laying funky things since Jan. Yesterday she was lethargic and drooling so I isolated her and started researching what might be wrong. Symptoms seemed to fit Sour Crop and Internal Laying

I started treating for sour crop.

This morning I went out to check on her and saw a white thing in her water. When I dumped it out this is what it turned out to be.



It is fleshy, not like the shelless membrane eggs she has frequently lain.




Anyone have a clue? That's a AAA battery for comparison.

Saw you posted this twice. IDK what it could be, but I'm sorry you're having trouble with her.

I hope things get better.

The only think I could think of is that, if she's "laying" eggs internally, then could one have developed to a point and then come out? Or something like that? It's hard to tell exactly what it looks like from a pic. KWIM?

Hi I am bumping this post because I have not had a lot of success in my research. I wanted to also give more information and an update on Della.

I treated her for sour crop and she responded.

Since then she has not laid a single "normal" egg. She has laid maybe 4 or 5 super soft shelled either below the roosts or in the run.

When I feel between her legs I can feel something in there but nothing ever comes of it

One thing I did read is that internal layers have reverse peristalsis in their ova tract so that the eggs don't make it to the vent instead they travel the wrong way and are deposited in the abdomen. She has laid an enormous egg with a normal sized egg inside which I also understand is a result of reverse peristalsis. She is 15 mos old now and other than for the first month she was laying has never been "normal" in terms of her laying. Soft shelled, shellless, weird things like what is pictured above...those are her normal

If anyone has any experience with this I would appreciate it. I guess what I want to know is how long she is likely to live with this condition. She doesn't appear to be sick in general and seems to be enjoying life so I don't want to euthanize her yet but what can I expect to have happen??
