Sorry - I've read all the posts but still have questions. First - are these the same thing?
It's almost 100 degrees here in NJ today - still a good idea to bring a chicken into an air conditioned space and give her a warm bath and then back out into the heat/humidity? Think that would stress her out more?She has not ever been in the house and is a little high strung.
1) What type of bird , age and weight. - 2 year old Welsummer - don't know exact weight but I have noticed she looks "fat" to me in the past week or two
2) What is the behavior, exactly. - nothing specific unfortunately - very few eggs - last one on Sat - today had what looked like yolk coming from her vent
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms? - no/low eggs for 2 weeks or so. yolk only today. weight about 2 weeks.
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms? - no
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma. - no signs of injury or trauma
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation. - suspect she's stressed about a new chick that I am trying - VERY SLOWLY to add to flock
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all. - yes - still loves grapes and comes running for treats
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc. - what i've seen beside the yolk stuff has been normal
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far? - nothing yet
10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet? - I would like to treat myself and will try yogurt, tums and try to get some vet rx poultry remedy as I've read on the forums.
11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help. - no injury
12) Describe the housing/bedding in use - eglu with straw bedding - free range in a suburban back yard (mostly weeds) with perennial beds and raspberry bushes, fig tree. all organic treatments in yard.
I'm sorry to add another egg binding thread to the emergency list but any additional help for home treatments would be greatly appreciated.
