I have a question about when and how to assist a hatch. I have experience of assisting after a chick has internally pipped but not externally pipped, but what if is chick does not pip internally?
First of all, what are the reasons why a chick would be fully developed but never pip? I once had an egg show no sign of hatching on day 24 and i opened up the air cell only to find it alive but the membranes in tact. I ended up breaking a tiny slit in the membrane over its beak but it did not survive.
Has anyone ever assisted with the internal pip and the chick survived? Or is it essential that the chick break the internal membrane itself?
