Well everything is going OK now... Since he hatched 4 days early though he is a lone duck and I'm not sure if the other egg that was left is Ben going to hatch... He seems kinda sad and doesn't want to eat or drink, does anyone have suggestions on teaching him to eat or drink? If I touch his bill to the water dish he will take a sip but only one :( I worked so hardand carefully to try and help him make it this far, what can I do to help him eat and drink??

WOW 4 Days early. Dang...Wiggle your finger in the water to get his attention, the movement should get him curious and want to check it out.

Food I would grind it up, the smaller the better then put some on your finger and let him peck it off. That's should get him moving..

I dipped his bill in and hell take a sip when I do that but only one sip I tried wiggling my fingers in it even splashing a couple drops towards him and nothing... All he seems to want to do is sleep, he's not even walking around much anymore :( he peeps a lot like he's super lonely too :( and even worse he might not get another duck companion for a few weeks, only 2 eggs from their batch have made it this far, the other is in lockdown now but it was so dark inside the egg when I candled I couldn't see movement anymore... If that one doesn't hatch he won't have another duckmate for about 3.5 weeks :/

Don't dip the bill, he could end up getting to much, wiggle the water, make waves..

OK, he's alonely, one thing to try is to get a mirror, when he sees himself he'll think it's another duck. Make sure he does have a stuff animal for companion.

If that fails guess what, You get to play Mother goose, Hold him a lot, carry him around, get him to imprint on you. Once that happens he'll feel more secure. How;s his belly button? Has it closed up all the way. He will need Naicin, if you can get to the store and get some Vitamin B complete drop a pill in a quart of water. IF possible Tractor supply sells Poultry Drench, I LOVE THIS STUFF. You put 1ml per quart.

but you will need to give him a lot of attention for the time being.

I have been holding him a lot I figured he was gonna imprint me since he's alone, I'm a stay at home mom so I have lots of time, the belly button closed but is still dark so I'm putting bacitracin ointment on it, he won't try to walk hardly at all today. We have a wilco farm store here so ill have to check there for that stuff, and do you use niacin powder? Or what form?

Update: he passed away in m hands just a few minutes ago... I had a temp spike in my brooder last night sometime after 1 am when I fell asleep, I got up at 5 and one side was 110 F so I adjusted the light to drop the temp but I fear that's what did it, yesterday he was walking around and pecking the ground but today he would!d barely stand... I feel terrible :(
