Hi all! I'm currently a junior in college and graduation is coming up fast. I'm still not really sure what I want to do after college, but I have a few ideas. I will definitely graduate with a degree in biology and I'm going to try for a minor in business. Medical school has always been a thought in the back of my mind, but I'm just not sure if that's really what I want to do (And the MCATs scare me...I have wonderful grades, but I'm not good with standardized tests) I will be taking a practice MCAT to see how I do. I have a feeling that will alleviate some fears for me.

Anywho, I really have to look into doing an internship this summer. My friend gave me a website that has lots of wildlife biologist internship opportunities and I will look into those. I would like to do one away from home and I would prefer that it provide housing and some sort of pay or compensation for the work I do. Some of them do and some do not. Some of the ones I have already looked at are positions for tagging wild animals like bobcats, deer, and birds, or for working on rehabilitation ranches. I would love to find one working with horses, but I'm not sure where to look for those.

Other fields of interest I have include forensics and equine sciences. Of course I have dream jobs in my mind that I would love to have, but they are not too realistic! At least an internship would give me somewhere to start. However, if I don't do an internship, I will be applying for a paid EMT position at a local hospital. Any internship websites or suggestions would be wonderful!

wish I had any ideas for you. If you want to go into medicine, go find a physician who would let you hang around and get the feel for a medical office. Make certain it's your cup o' tea.

Some ideas:
WERC is a wolf sanctuary in Idaho, a friend of mine did an internship there but beware, it is VERY primitive. You can google it, it will come up.
Other animal internships can be found on the AZA website, look under job listings, some are zoo and some are wildlife based.
Equimax is one of the best websites for equine jobs. It costs to join, but is so worth it. If you think you want to work with horses it is definitely worth every penny to have access to their site.

And definitely start now, internships fill up really fast in these fields. Good luck

Thanks so far, guys. I found a pretty good website that has a ton of different internships, so I've been looking at that. There's a couple really neat ones.

The Chicken Lady, my problem is that I could really go either way. I know I don't want to be a veterinarian because I worked in an animal hospital for awhile and really didn't like it much. My fear with med school is that I will go through all the schooling and all the bills just to find out I didn't like it. However, I am definitely planning to shadow a physician before deciding if that's the route I will go. I've already had a few physicians offer to let me shadow.

I love animals too and would love to have a job working with nature or doing research. I know there are several jobs in conservation, but I'm not sure what direction I would go in. I'm beginning to stress a little over this decision because it seems like everybody is expecting me to know what I want to do right now. I know I probably will not be working my "dream career" right out of college. I just feel like I should have more of a direction and I don't. I guess I feel like everyone else around me knows what they want to do and I'm still floating around deciding what I should do after college. The last thing I want to do is graduate without a plan!
