Intoducing strange ducks to my flock from the SPCA

I agree with jdywntr. At the very least keep them in quarantine for a while if you get some .Do things like look at the stool they have and make sure to feel the breast of the birds you do go to get for good weight. Also check their feet and dont get any bumblefoot ones. I have dealt with bumblefoot only a few times and even though I did what I could for it. The birds still died in a year or so wether it was bumble or not. But to me personally it's a time release death sentence and I dont want to deal with that if I can help it. I think all in all youll be okay if you check them out the best you can Good luck
Only a year :( My one female runner has bumble foot and it has got to a point where it went down, she dosent limp and it doesn't bleed but I don't know what else to do.. and the vet pretty much abandoned me. Never emailed me back after mutli emails....I hate hate hate bumble foot. Its so gross.

I dont know of any way to do a quarantine with out making an entire new pen. I let my ducks free range during the day, so I couldnt even let the new ones out with out putting up a fence. Its pretty cold here so I would need a solid nighttime enclosure with their own bedding and food and water source.

It seems like a pretty in depth undertaking, and a lot more work than I think I am willing to do for just 2 ducks, as much as I'd like to help them.

Anyone have suggestions for some quick cheap temp housing? If I can find something practical that isn't building a whole separate shelter, I'll give it a try.

I'll definetly check their feet.

Get some Nu stock, every eve, when they go to bed, wash your ducks foot real good then slather on the Nu stock do this till you see no more bumble foot, I usually have a spray bottle with Oxine mixed with water and I spray the dickens out of the foot, dry with paper towels then put the Nu stock on and put her to bed [In my case it's a chickens]

Dog crate. They work amazing! I use a 700 series crate with multi 500 and 400 series ones. You can find them used fairely cheep and they can be in the house. If you have a garage you can place them in there and let them out when the other ducks are penned up. :)

I agree, a dog crate is a great means of housing.

The TSC closest to me doesn't carry it but they may order for you, I found it at my local feed store and you can order on line. My hen s foot looks so much better, i haven't had to cut at all just keep putting the Nu stock on each evening and I can still see the scab but there is no swelling or redness at all.
