Hi y'all, (this is Texan so I'm told, lol).

I'm gail.

I have 57 chickens and just bought another 30 I think.
The first 53 I bought was back in September 2021. They were on sale for $1. I had to get them all.

They are mainly Speckled Sussex and about 10 Rhode Island Reds. Out of the 53, 6 were roosters.

Between yesterday and today I now have 6 Black Australorps, 6 Blue Australorps, 6 Buff Orpingtons, 6 White Leghorns, and 6 Wellsummers.

I am giving some of my Sussex away with a couple of roosters to make room.

My favorite aspects is of course the eggs and the manure is a plus for the veggies.

Hobbies is gardening, motorcycle, hiking, flee markets, stained glass creating, among other things

I have a spouse, Rick, who puts up with my antics, he is my builder, welder, hole digger and a lot more.

We have 6 pups, a cairn terrier mutt, a miniature poodle mutt, a bully mix (boxer, bull dog), a pryedoodle (he does not start fires), and 2 6 month old great pyrenees, bother and sister names lady and the tramp. Unfortunately they sometimes fight like brother and sister. Lady is very demanding and Tramp is very laid back most of the time. They are pets, working to protect the family.

We also have 15 cats. 3 were mine, 12 are from a stray.

And we are raising 2 rabbits with 10 babies.

We live in Paris, Texas for the last 3 years. Great place to live.

I have been doing a lot of research when I want to know about different breeds, or if one bird comes down with something. That's how I found BYC. They seem very knowledgeable.

I finally looked at this awesome community today and had some knowledge to share and found some interesting posts, so I decided to join.
So it will be awesome getting to know y'all.

:D

Are you saying in September 2021 you went from ZERO to 53 chickens?! OMG. I love it! I live in North Hollywood, CA (not Hollywood, over the hill in a more industrial suburb). We used to have 6 chickens and then we gave them away. Recently I rebuilt a bigger, better coop and got 20 chicks. Looks like about 5 will be roosters. We can only legally have 1 rooster (and that's only if neighbors allow) here in LA county, so we'll see how long they stay with us. 2 Amber star, 1 buttercup, 3 bielefelder, 6 silver barnevelder, 3 isbar, 2 black copper marans, 1 speckled maran of some sort, 2 whiting true green or blue (not sure)
