I am new to having chickens. I have 3 Splash Ameraucanas, 6 Buff Orpingtons, all 25 wks old, and one 6+yr old Ameraucana who came to us to retire when chicks were 16 wks. We live in FL on an acre. My peeps have about 1/3 acre for free range and are locked in coop every nite. I got all but the old girl at 24 hrs old. All seem to be healthy and doing well. I so enjoy their antics n personalities. I am having a blast being a chicken wrangler. Lol I originally wanted 6, 3 of each. I ordered a couple extra just in case a couple didn't make it or were roos. Hatchery also sent 2 extra. Now I have 10.

Welcome to BYC! We're glad to have you here! :welcome

That reminds me of our flock - originally, we wanted 6 hens. We could only order 10, so we figured a couple might pass in shipping and we could settle for 8.

Well, not only did all of the hens survive in shipping, but they gave us 2 extra! Then we ended up with 12. :gig
