A few things to consider that I wish I had before I got a hobby farm:

Where will you put all the poop? How will you dispose of it?

Realize how easily chickens die and that your favorite and most expensive will somehow manage to die first

Truly read up on and understand how to predator proof a chicken set up and than use that knowledge before setting loose the birds. Check for compromised areas on a regular basis.

Do not start hatching your own chicks until you understand that your bathroom, porch, garage and any other available space will be full of eggs and chicks. Also consider what will you do if the chicks dont sell.

Be ready for things to be born and die in and around your home at random and inopportune times
