Hello everyone,
I just recently found this site and am addicted already. It will be next spring before I can start my journey into chicken ownership. My hubby is military and we will be moving to Alabama and buying country acreage this fall, so for now I am educating myself and trying to figure out what we will start with. I am looking at the dual purpose breeds(mainly want the eggs and poss stock the freezer too)
and some guineas (for bug patrol).

Another big WELCOME from Olympia, WA -

This is a great place to hangout and learn all you need to know about chickens.

I thank you both for serving our country.

Welcome from North Carolina!

You have more self control than I do! I would be saying "one or two will be ok in the house"!!!

Unfortunately we live in military housing so I can't sneak any in

It has crossed my mind though.

Welcome! Good luck on your new farm and chicken adventure!

Welcome Nancy

Lots of the hatcheries ship chicks in fall... I'd recommend getting some at that time then come spring you'll start getting eggs already. It also speeds up the coop building process when you have chicks in a brooder. Lots of great info here... watch out it is definitely addicting and we are all enablers!
