Ok, we said we didn't want to go back to 3 dogs again because we really just didn't like having 3.
Well, I look at CL almost daily (mostly to laugh or shake my head at posts there). We decided our next dog would likely be a dane. I wanted a male, but I wanted to keep it smaller, so meant female. Not brindle and not fawn. I've seen many a dane listed, but always boys or much older girls.

I saw one listed this weekend and emailed about her since they had very little info.
She's 15 months old, spayed already, 80 pounds, up to date on stuff, potty trained, dog/cat/small animal friendly, and a blue merle. She sounds like she'd fit in pretty well and they think she'd be fine once introduced to the ducks and told to leave them (their guess is she will try to get them to play).
We are going to meet her tomorrow evening.
So much for the don't want 3 dogs thing.

Jet is 12 and while she still plays, she plays like a greyhound. She's not rough and tumble.
Tavarish is 6 and all doberman and needs a real dog to play with. DH said he'd kind of like to have a playmate around for him since Jet just doesn't cut it for him. He tries and does play with her, but he's got hours of play left in him after she's done and he's rough and tumble.

I introduced ducklings to these 2 and they quickly learned the ducks were not toys or treats and have been good (though Jet has now learned that eggs come from their back ends and follows them around looking for eggs

).
But now the ducks have been around and know that for the most part, the dogs will leave them alone.

So any tricks for introducing a new dog to existing ducks? If we decide to adopt her, we'll do introductions on leash and probably close off the dog door so we can go out with her, leashed for a while, until we are certain of her non interest in the ducks. I don't want to have to do more fencing and fence in the ducks (though we could... but I do like letting them just do their thing)

Let her see your other dogs around your ducks and keep her on a long leash and see how she reacts with the birds. Then as a final test put her in a pen with a duck and see how it goes. We have duck hunting dogs (yellow lab and a british lab but they could care less about all the "house ducks".

Met her last night with the DH and the dogs. Seems like she could be a good fit. She's a tiny dane. DH thinks she's ugly - he's not fond of the merle coloring, but said it was good she had a cute face to make up for it

We'll bring her home this weekend and block off the dog door so she only has outside on a leash for a bit while we see how she does and we'll work on "don't eat the ducks"
As long as she does well with the ducks and we can get her trained to leave them alone, she'll stay
