Not sure why but it seems this is a needed step to create an intro?...so -- we are a small family with BYCs for several years now. We've bought from stores, hatched ourselves, bought hatching eggs online and bought pullets shipped to us (all survived!) and most recently bought white silkie bantam chicks in New Holland, PA. The hardest to learn was accepting the deaths - from raccoons, an unknown predator, a 1st winter mite infestation, - heat exhaustion (one escaped coop and had no water while we were away) and most recently a hawk that claimed the head of a silkie bantam. Our current issue is that some unkind fellow BYC owner dropped off a Young Rooster in our yard! There are plenty of Amish Farms nearby, but for some unknown reason they dropped him off at our yard - IN a neighborhood, where clearly roosters are unwelcomed. He appears to be a RI Red or possibly a New Hampshire Red as best we can tell. He is a bit scared/shy, but was a great patrol around our hens' fencing for days before we were able to catch him. We tried to put him in with our mature hens, but he flew out and proceeded to keep watch over them from outside their fencing. We have him caged right now and if anyone needs a roo-protector let us know. We have a sign at tractor supply too and hope we can rehome him appropriately.
