Hi I'm 8 months new and learning the ins and outs of the chicken world. I got my first two chicken from Craiglist for free and a friend gave me a silkie. Three months later, the silkie started laying eggs and the two speckled Sussex started crowing. I got rid of the mean one. I adopted another silkie rooster and successfully bred 7 baby mixed bantams.
I have ongoing chicken fever and in January I started buying pullets from a local feed bin in many separate visits. Next thing, I had bought 15 pullets, four turned to be roosters.

Six months later, they are all crowing at the same time. I'm trying to find out if I can trade the three roosters-1 Americauna named Cashew and two Barred Rocks named Obi-Wan and Darth Vader for ducks, quails or rabbits. They are organically fed and love kale and lettuce greens from our garden on top of the barley sprouts.

At first, I thought of turning them into barbecue or stew but after they stared at me every feeding time, I dropped the thought. I hope I could find them a new home where they can have the chance to carry out their intended purpose as roosters and won't end up getting eaten.

I'm sure there will be more incidental roosters coming out of the eggs I'm incubating from my flock and from the fertile eggs I bought from Cooportunity and Trader Joe's. The learning about chickens is continuously flowing.

Mountain Peeps X2 After you have 20 posts, you can place an ad there in the Buy Sell and Trade section that Mountain Peeps left for you.

You can also chat with your chicken neighbors in your state thread in hopes someone will take your boys. Scroll thru this link and find your state thread...

Good luck and I hope you can find them some nice homes!

Welcome to BYC! Unfortunately re-homing roosters is an ongoing process especially while hatching eggs, I've had to do it many times. I would try your local feed store, perhaps they will take the roosters for a small store credit. Best of luck to you.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Good luck rehoming your roosters, with about 50% roos from hatched eggs, it is an ongoing problem. You might also try places like Craigslist and screen homes.

Welcome to BYC!

If I were you, I would reconsider eating the boys. Unless there is a nice big farm where all the roosters of the world are living in peace without my knowledge, most of the boys are going to end up as someone's dinner. Might as well be yours.

Welcome to BYC! You've received some very good advice and links from other BYC members. I hope you can solve your excessive rooster problem in a way that's satisfactory to you. Good luck.

Thank you for all the kind advise. I greatly appreciate them all. =)
