Hey all, I'm Yvonne, wife and mom of two teen girls. I live in a small town in Oregon and drive school bus locally, love it.
Our family knew we wanted to raise a small flock once we bought a house. We got our house about 2 years ago and added our flock just over a year ago. I took my family to chick classes our local Wilco and Coastal farm stores the year before we got chicks, started doing some research the next year and went another chick class before getting our girls.
I thought I knew what kind of chickens we wanted to raise, but when it came time to picking out chicks, we really didn't stick to the plan, which was 2 Easter Eggers and 4 Orpintons. What did end up getting were 2 Buff Brahmas, aka the twins, Cacciatore (Tori) and Seasame (Ses), a blue laced cochin named Hilda (or fluffy pigeon, rotundas), gold laced cochin name General Tso (General), a blue langshan name Bleu after Cordon Bleu, and a jersey giant named Buzzy after Buzz Alderan from Jersey. They such characters! 2 of the girls will actually perch on your arm if you hold it out.
I found this site in my research phase the year before getting chicks.
