Hi all,
New member here. Here is what I am up to:
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I got the first three as babies in Nov 2018. They are all healthy and free ranging in our backyard.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
With the recent addition of three more chicks recently, we now have six.
(3) What breeds do you have?
The first three include two Rhode Island Reds and one Buff Orpington. The recent three are all barnyard mixes. After the first three I decided that I don't want chickens from a commercial breeder, so I found a close-by farm with free range chickens and got three baby chicks from there.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Chickens are amazing. I am into permaculture and appreciate the help I get from chickens in fertilizing, minimizing insects, and eating weeds. They are also great pets and give joy to me and my family. I appreciate the eggs as well, but that is not my primary motivation.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Permaculture.
